Safari trips reach country that would take days on foot, using four-wheel drive over rough tracks. The Deosai plains are the obvious example — a plateau above 4,000 metres that you can cross in a day by jeep and that would otherwise be a serious trek.
These trips suit travellers short on time, groups with mixed fitness, and photographers who want to be somewhere specific at first or last light. Altitude still applies: Deosai is high, and the weather on the plateau can turn regardless of the season.
