About This Route

The Sarfaranga desert in the Shigar valley is a genuine cold desert — sand dunes sitting at around 2,200 metres with snow-covered peaks rising straight behind. The contrast is the point, and it is at its strongest in the low light at either end of the day.

It is close enough to Skardu to combine with the valley tour, and it is the venue for the jeep rally held here, so local drivers know the ground unusually well.
